AGUA DEL SOL | Espadín | Reyna Rodriguez | 500ml

This expression of Maguey Espadín (Agave angustifolia) made by maestra Reyna Rodriguez has the traditional methods of production using a horse-drawn tahona mill, naturally fermenting in sabino wood vats, and distilling twice in copper alembic stills. Reyna cultivates her agaves from seeds and works with her son in the whole process.

Reyna is the third generation of producers from La Reforma, Yautepec, Oaxaca. She remembers that her grandfather, Francisco, produced mezcal by hand crushing the cooked agaves with wooden mallets and distilling it in clay pots. They walked from Santa María Ecatepec to the ranch, which is warmer, to work on mezcal. She learned the whole process of making traditional mezcal with her grandfather Francisco.

This is a great example of how an Espadín can be good for cocktails and also for enjoying it straight. Very straightforward and complex 51% AVB spirits with lots of character.

Aromas of this production: After letting your glass get some air, the smoke is less pronounced and you can get more floral, mixed fruits and oak on the nose.

Flavours of this production: High notes of berries, cherry, sage, lime, mixed with a slightly spicy finish.
