CUISH Madrecuishe - Reyna Sanchez | 500ml
Reyna Sánchez, known as the "queen of mezcal", who has been in charge of her family's palenque for more than 10 years. She inherited by Don Ignacio Sánchez, her grandfather and second father. Reyna learned how to make mezcal from Don Ignacio, and has been producing fantastic mezcals. She is known in Oaxaca for her madrecuishe and tepextate. Besides being in charge of his family's palenque, she has also taken charge of the housework and the care of his mother, with whom she lives. She oversees all aspects of her production, from planting on her 13 acres lands, to harvest, making and carrying mezcal for sale.
Maguey madrecuishe (madre-cuixe, madrecuixe) is an Agave karwinskii. It grows mostly in dry climates, and typically takes a tall, cylindrical shape. Due to the agave’s dense core and low water content, mezcal made from Maguey madre-cuishe typically has high minerality with vegetal and floral notes. It is an endemic agave of Miahuatlán region.
This expression of Maguey Madrecuishe (Agave karwinskii) by Reyna Sanchez was made with horse-drawn circular stone mill. Fermented in Sabino wood, twice distilled in copper still. This is one of Reyna's signature expressions, very small batch. Only 96 bottles in Europe!
Aromas of this production: Earthy flavour on the nose, hints of pollen and sweet potato.
